Keonjhar: Amid an intense heatwave sweeping the State, a powerful Kalabaisakhi storm wreaked havoc in Keonjhar district on Thursday afternoon, disrupting normal life with heavy rain, strong winds and a sudden whirlwind.
In a tragic incident reported from Narayanpur area under Keonjhar Town Police Station limits, a tent erected for a community feast collapsed due to the gusty winds. Three persons were killed in the mishap, while another sustained critical injuries and was rushed to hospital for treatment.
The identities of the deceased were yet to be ascertained till the filing of this report.
The storm also uprooted and damaged trees in several parts of the district, causing widespread disruption. Power supply was snapped in many areas following the severe weather conditions.
Police and district administration officials reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident. The tragedy cast a pall of gloom over the locality.
