Rairangpur: A 44-year-old man was killed in a wild elephant attack in the Badampahar police station area of Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Thursday, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Lal Mohan Dehuri, son of Guruk Dehuri of Dudhijharan village under Tolkapokhari Panchayat. He belonged to the Khadia tribal community.
According to reports, Lal Mohan had gone to the Dalakisahi jungle near his village in the Badampahar forest area to collect mangoes when he was attacked by a wild elephant. Local residents rushed to rescue him, but he died on the spot due to severe injuries.
After receiving information, personnel from the Badampahar police station and Forest Department reached the spot and recovered the body. The body was later sent for post-mortem examination.
Police said a case has been registered and an investigation into the incident is underway.
