Sonepur: A newly married woman attempted to end her life by jumping into the Mahanadi River from the Mahanadi bridge on the Sonepur-Sambalpur road on Sunday.
The woman, a resident of Kainphul village under Sonepur police station, was rescued by the Sonepur Fire Department team after passers-by immediately raised the alarm. She was pulled out of the water and rushed to the Sonepur District Headquarters Hospital, where her condition is reported to be stable.
According to preliminary information, the woman had gone on an outing with her husband on a motorcycle. The couple, who got married a few months ago, had an argument while traveling.
To calm the situation, the husband stopped the bike on the Mahanadi bridge and tried to take a picture with her.
However, in the meantime, the woman jumped into the river.The exact reason behind the argument is not yet clear. Police have initiated an inquiry into the matter.The timely intervention by local people and the fire department saved the woman’s life. Doctors are monitoring her condition at the district hospital.
