Sundargarh: In a major crackdown, Sundargarh police busted a large illegal gambling den in the Jamjharia forest area under Hemgiri police station near the Odisha-Chhattisgarh border.
Acting on secret intelligence, police conducted a midnight raid under the direct instructions of Sundargarh Superintendent of Police Amritpal Kaur. During the raid, police arrested 26 gamblers and seized a huge amount of cash among other items.
Besides, police recovered Rs 11,16,900 in cash, 9 motorcycles, 3 cars, 31 mobile phones, and a large quantity of playing cards from the spot. This is considered one of the biggest operations against illegal gambling activities in the district in recent times.
Police have, meanwhile, warned that strict action will continue against such unlawful gambling dens in the district.
Talking to mediapersons, Sundergarh SP said, “Based on reliable information, police busted a gambing den near a jungle on Odisha-Chatishgarh border. A team was formed and a raid was conducted accordingly. As many as 26 gamblers were apprehended during the raid. Further investigation into the case is underway.”
