Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday issued a nowcast warning for several districts of Odisha, forecasting thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, rainfall and gusty surface winds over the next three hours.
According to the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, thunderstorms with lightning and rain, coupled with wind speeds of 40-50 kmph, are very likely to occur at a few places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Gajapati, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Kendrapara, Khordha, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, Puri, Rayagada and Sambalpur districts.
The weather office advised residents in the affected areas to remain alert and take necessary precautions against lightning strikes and strong winds. People have been urged to move to safer locations during thunderstorm activity and avoid taking shelter under trees or near vulnerable structures.
The warning is part of the IMD’s short-term nowcast monitoring system aimed at providing advance information on rapidly developing weather conditions. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the evolving situation.
