Bhubaneswar: Properties worth crores, including five multi-storey buildings and 13 high-value plots, have been unearthed so far from assets linked to Baikuntha Nath Behera, Assistant Executive Engineer of ITDA, Baliguda in Kandhamal during Vigilance raids.
The Vigilamce officials unearthed the properties during ongoing searches at nine locations associated with Behera in Bhubaneswar, Baripada, Dharmasala in Jajpur, and Baliguda. The searches were launched on morning over alleged possession of disproportionate assets beyond known sources of income.
Assets unearthed so far: five buildings, four palatial buildings in Bhubaneswar — a 10,500 sqft four-storeyed building in Niladri Vihar, a 1,100 sqft triple-storeyed building in Sailashree Vihar, a 3,750 sqft double-storeyed building in Kanan Vihar, and a 2,500 sqft double-storeyed building in Chandrasekharpur. A 2,500 sqft double-storeyed building was also found on paternal land at Dharmasala in Jajpur.
The 13 high-value plots include seven in prime Bhubaneswar localities such as Chandrasekharpur, Sailashree Vihar, Ghatikia and Bomikhal, five plots in Dharmasala area of Jajpur district, and one plot in Baripada.
In addition, Vigilance officials seized Rs 2.66 lakh in cash from premises linked to the officer. Weighment of gold jewellery recovered during the searches is underway, while two bank lockers operated in the name of Behera’s spouse are yet to be opened.
Bank, postal deposits and other financial investments are being ascertained. The measurement and valuation of the buildings and plots is being carried out by the Vigilance Technical Wing, officials added.
It is pertinent to mention that Behera (52) joined government service as Junior Engineer in 1999 with a starting salary of Rs 6,000. He was promoted to Assistant Engineer in 2016 and to AEE in February 2026, when he was posted at ITDA, Baliguda.
