Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon advanced further on Friday. The monsoon has now covered the entire Goa, some parts of Karnataka, most regions of Tamil Nadu, and some parts of Andhra Pradesh, according to the India Meteorological Department.
As per IMD information, the advance marks renewed progress after a brief lull in monsoon activity earlier this week. Conditions are favourable for further advance into more parts of Karnataka, remaining parts of Tamil Nadu, some more parts of Andhra Pradesh, and some parts of Telangana during the next 2–3 days.
Notably, the Southwest Monsoon has made its onset over Kerala on June 4.
IMD scientists meanwhile predicted that monsoon winds over the Bay of Bengal are likely to strengthen from June 11. The monsoon current is then expected to advance towards Odisha and reach the state between June 14 and 17.
Last year, the southwest monsoon arrived in Odisha on May 28, nearly two weeks ahead of its normal date of June 10.
