New Delhi: Delhi Police on Saturday clarified that no FIR has been registered against supporters of the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ who staged a protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the NEET paper leak issue.

In a post on social media, Delhi Police said: “Certain social media posts and news reports are claiming that Delhi Police has registered an FIR against the protesters at Jantar Mantar. It is clarified that no such FIR has been registered.”

The police also advised citizens to remain alert against rumours.

“Citizens are advised not to believe or circulate unverified information. Please rely only on official updates issued by Delhi Police,” the statement said.

Earlier, the social media platform ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ held a protest at Jantar Mantar and received support from activist and innovator Sonam Wangchuk, students, competitive examination aspirants and politicians.

Permission to hold the protest was granted just hours before it began on Saturday morning after ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ founder Abhijeet Dipke arrived in Delhi from the US and headed straight to the protest venue on Parliament Street.

Before arriving in Delhi, Dipke had appealed to his supporters to gather at Jantar Mantar. He was seen leaving the airport carrying a copy of B.R. Ambedkar’s autobiography.

A statement issued by the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ said that the demonstration was aimed at “demanding accountability, seeking justice, and calling for Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation”.

A pamphlet distributed at the protest venue claimed that the party’s petition seeking Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation had received more than eight lakh signatures.

Dipke launched the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ last month following Chief Justice of India Surya Kant’s “parasites” and “cockroaches” remark.

Within hours, the ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ gained widespread attention on social media and attracted millions of followers across various platforms.
