Bhubaneswar: MV Constable Ashutosh Mridangia, who had suffered severe burn injuries, passed away on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.
According to reports, nearly 80% of his body was burnt in the incident. He was admitted to the Burn Ward of AIIMS Bhubaneswar. His condition deteriorated two days ago, after which he was put on ventilator support. He breathed his last today. His sister confirmed the news of his death.
Notably, the incident came to light after Ashutosh was allegedly set on fire by his wife Sandhya and brother-in-law who poured petrol on him. The constable had earlier lodged complaints against his wife in two separate occasions.
The deceased constable’s family members expressed strong dissatisfaction with the Berhampur Police. They alleged that no action was taken against his wife Sandhya and her brother despite their complaint.
Meanwhile, his family has demanded a CBI probe into the case. They also accused Sandhya of not visiting the hospital even once to see Ashutosh while he was undergoing treatment.
