Baripada: In a shocking and heart-wrenching incident, an 80-year-old woman suffering from illness was allegedly abandoned in a forest by her own grandson in Bangiriposhi block of Mayurbhanj district.
The victim, Rukmani Patra, a resident of Kandolia village under Bhuasuni Panchayat in Bangiriposhi block, lived with her son Golak Chandra Patra (55) and grandson Tapan Kumar Patra (26).
According to reports, Rukmani had been suffering from chronic diarrhea and urine leakage for some time.Police said that the elderly woman was abandoned in the forest near the village by her grandson Tapan Kumar Patra.On receiving information, the local police team swung into action. Police Station Officer Panchanan Mohanty immediately dispatched a team led by SI Sasmita Samal to the spot and successfully rescued the elderly woman.
Speaking to reporters, Police Officer Panchanan Mohanty said the rescued woman has been shifted to an old age home for safety and care. A case has been registered against the grandson Tapan Kumar Patra, and further investigation is underway.
The incident has caused widespread outrage in the area, with many condemning the act of abandoning an ailing elderly family member. Police have assured that the victim will receive proper medical attention and care.
