Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported widespread cloud cover over most parts of Odisha this morning.
According to the IMD observation at 8:30 am, several places including Bhubaneswar, Chandbali, Puri, and Paradip are completely overcast with 8 oktas of cloud cover. Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, and Rourkela recorded 7 oktas, while Hirakud and Balasore have 6 oktas. Gopalpur has relatively lesser cloud cover at 5 oktas.
Coastal and northern districts are currently experiencing heavy cloudiness, whereas southern coastal areas like Gopalpur have moderate cloud cover. This prevailing cloudy condition is likely to result in overcast weather with chances of light rain or thundershowers at many places across the state during the day.
It can be mentioned that Okta is a unit used by meteorologists to measure cloud cover (how much of the sky is covered by clouds). The sky is divided into 8 equal parts. While 1 Okta is 1/8th of the sky covered by clouds, 8 Oktas is the entire sky is completely covered by clouds (fully overcast).
