Bhubaneswar: A male and female cobra and 27 hatchlings were rescued from a house in Bhatpur village under Haripur Panchayat of Bhadrak district.
Residents of the house, belonging to Sanatan Behera, heard hissing sounds in the evening and alerted the Snake Helpline. Snake catcher Mirza Arif reached the spot and rescued one male cobra, one female cobra, and 27 hatchlings.
The female snake had laid eggs in a crack in the earthen wall in a corner of the house, where the eggs later hatched. Locals said that since the area is near a river, snakes are frequently spotted coming out.
Bhadrak district has witnessed several such instances of multiple snakes being rescued from houses in the past.
