Rairangpur: President Droupadi Murmu arrived in Rairangpur of Mayurbhanj district on Friday afternoon for a two-day visit to the state and received a grand welcome from Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, senior ministers, officials and local representatives.
During her visit to her birthplace and first workplace, the President inaugurated the first free health camp organised jointly by AIIMS Bhubaneswar and local authorities. She also interacted with healthcare workers and reviewed the arrangements made for the initiative.
The President dedicated several key public welfare and infrastructure projects to the people of the region. These included the mega piped water supply project for Kusumi block, a new building of the Brahmakumaris organisation, the Special Circuit House and the new office of the Superintendent of Police for the newly created Rairangpur Police District.
Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, senior government officials and public representatives attended the inauguration ceremonies. The projects are expected to strengthen civic infrastructure and accelerate development in the region.
The visit carries special significance as June 20 marks President Murmu’s birthday. Residents of Rairangpur have expressed enthusiasm over the President spending the occasion in her native town, where she began her public service career.
The second day of the visit is expected to be marked by major political and developmental events. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to arrive in Mayurbhanj on Saturday and participate in multiple programmes alongside the President.
Both leaders will attend the mega public gathering, “Vikasara Dhara, Odisha Sara,” at Dandabose Ground in Rairangpur, organised to mark two years of the BJP government in Odisha.
During the event, the Prime Minister is expected to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth over ₹47,600 crore across the state. The projects span critical sectors including power, railways, road connectivity, healthcare and education, and are expected to provide a significant boost to Odisha’s infrastructure and economic growth.
