Puri: A couple was found hanging from a ceiling fan inside their house in the Senapati Bagicha area under Talabania police station limits in Puri on Sunday, triggering a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
The deceased were identified as Anam Mishra and his wife, Sangita Mishra. According to police, family members and local residents discovered the couple hanging inside their residence and immediately alerted the authorities.
A team from Talabania police station rushed to the spot and launched a preliminary investigation. The bodies were sent for postmortem examination and later cremated at Swargadwar crematorium in Puri.
The incident has taken a new turn after the couple’s son, Anu Mishra, demanded a thorough probe into the deaths. He alleged that his father had often spoken about money that was yet to be returned to him and urged police to uncover the truth behind the incident.
However, locals claimed that the couple had been under severe mental stress for a long time due to their son’s alleged drug addiction and related issues. Police are verifying the claims as part of the investigation.
Investigators have detained Anu Mishra for questioning and are examining all possible angles, including family disputes, financial issues and other circumstances that may have led to the deaths.
Further investigation is underway.
