Berhampur: Police on Sunday arrested the nephew of Odisha Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena in connection with the alleged abetment of suicide of a 20-year-old woman student at a private engineering college in Ganjam district.
The accused, identified as Biswajit Jena (24), is the minister’s nephew and is alleged to have been in a relationship with the deceased, a BCA student. The woman was found hanging from the ceiling of her hostel room on Saturday (June 20), police said.
Berhampur Superintendent of Police Saravana Vivek M said a case was registered at Golanthara police station under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) after a complaint was lodged by the deceased’s uncle. Following the complaint and preliminary inquiry, police arrested the accused and initiated further investigation.
