Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has announced a significant 40 per cent increase in the financial assistance given to lawyers from the Odisha State Lawyers’ Welfare Fund.
As per release issued by Chief Minister Office (CMO), the enhanced benefits will be provided to practicing advocates or their family members in cases of retirement or death.
The decision is expected to benefit thousands of lawyers working in various courts across the state. The last revision in the assistance amount under this welfare scheme was made in 2021.
Under the revised structure, a lawyer with five years or less of practice will receive Rs 1,05,000 in case of death, to be given to the nearest family member. The assistance amount will increase progressively with every additional year of experience. A lawyer with 30 years of service will be eligible for the maximum benefit of Rs 6,30,000, either as a retirement grant or to the family in the event of the lawyer’s demise.
This substantial hike aims to provide greater financial security to lawyers and their families who have dedicated long years to the legal profession.
