Dhenkanal/Angul: A man and a woman were killed in separate elephant attacks in Dhenkanal and Angul districts on Tuesday.

In the first incident, Kshirod Das, a resident of Baulapurpatana village under the Dhenkanal Sadar forest range, was trampled to death by a wild elephant early in the morning. Das had gone near a river when he encountered the elephant. The animal attacked him, leaving him critically injured, reports said.

Villagers and forest officials rushed Das to the District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) in Dhenkanal for treatment. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Hours later, another fatal elephant attack was reported from Limbadih village in the Satkosia area of Angul district. The victim, identified as Nalini Sahu, was inside her house when a wild elephant allegedly entered the village and attacked her.

According to reports, the elephant dragged Sahu out of her house before trampling her to death. The incident triggered panic among villagers, many of whom spent the day fearing further elephant movement in the area.

Upon receiving information about the incident, Athmallik police reached the spot and sent the body for post-mortem examination. Forest department personnel also visited the village and launched an inquiry into the incident.
