Bhubaneswar: A 21-year-old man died and his parents sustained critical injuries in a cracker explosion at their house in Singipur village under Patpur police limits in Ganjam district on Wednesday evening.
The deceased has been identified as Akash Das. His father Santosh Das and mother Vishnu Priya Das were seriously injured in the blast and are undergoing treatment. The explosion occurred while crackers were allegedly being manufactured at the house in Sankhemundi block.
The blast was so intense that it completely destroyed the roof of the house. Walls of the neighbouring houses were also damaged. On receiving information, Patpur police reached the spot, rescued the injured, and sent them to the Digpahandi Community Health Centre.
Akash Das was declared dead at the hospital.Police have launched an investigation into the incident. Preliminary inquiry suggests that Santosh Das was making and selling crackers from his house. The incident has sparked concern in the village over illegal cracker manufacturing.
