Patna: Pooja Kumari from Buxar district in Bihar is an inspiration for students preparing for competitive examinations. While many students give up after repeated failures, Pooja did not lose hope. She secured the 999th rank in the 70th BPSC examination and was selected for the post of DSP.

Pooja had previously appeared in the BPSC and UPSC exams six times. However, she could not succeed. Despite this, she did not lose hope. Pooja continued her preparation with strong self-belief that she would succeed one day. After her success, there is an atmosphere of celebration in her village. Her family and villagers now dream of their daughters becoming like Pooja.

In a conversation with IANS, Pooja Kumari on Friday said she is from Kesath village in Buxar district. Her father is a farmer, and her mother is a homemaker.

Pooja said she prepared for the DSP post for about 7–8 years. In the 64th BPSC exam, she reached the interview stage but was not selected. In the 65th, she could not clear the prelims. In the 66th, she cleared the mains but did not succeed further. After that, she failed to clear prelims three more times. Finally, in the 70th BPSC exam, she secured 999th rank and achieved the DSP post.

She said that after every failure, she felt she might never succeed, but continuous encouragement from her parents and family kept her motivated. Instead of relying heavily on coaching, she focused more on self-study. She began her education at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Kaimur, and later completed her BA from IGNOU. She also prepared for UPSC but was not successful.

While advising students, Pooja said, “Never lose hope. NCERT books are very important for the basics. Solve previous years’ question papers. Do not spend too much time on current affairs—one hour daily is enough.”

She credited her success mainly to her parents and family support. She said her family stood by her throughout the exam journey, and her siblings also helped in every possible way.

Pooja added that one should not stop based on exam results, because those who stop do not grow—only those who keep moving forward achieve progress.
