Bhubaneswar: Police on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly attempting to rape a woman from West Bengal at a hotel in Bhubaneswar.
The accused, identified as Jayant Kumar Naik of Siripur village under Sora Police Station in Baleswar district, was arrested following a complaint lodged by the survivor at Bharatpur Police Station.
According to the police, the woman, a resident of the Girish Park area in Kolkata, had been living in Bhubaneswar with her husband for the past four months. The couple was staying at a hotel in the GA Colony area under Bharatpur police limits.
The alleged incident took place when the woman’s husband was away from the hotel room. Taking advantage of his absence, the accused allegedly entered the premises and attempted to sexually assault her. The woman resisted the attack and later approached the police.
Acting on the complaint, police registered a case, launched an investigation, and apprehended the accused. He was produced before a local court and remanded to judicial custody.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
