Baripada: A 30-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter were found murdered inside their house in Dokeipal village under Mahuldiha Police Station limits in Mayurbhanj district on Saturday, police said.
The incident took place at Muktajhari Sahi in Dokeipal village under Taramara Gram Panchayat.
According to preliminary information, Chaitanya Tudu (35) had left for agricultural work in a nearby paddy field at around 10 a.m. When he returned home at about 2 p.m., he found all the doors of the house closed. Despite repeatedly calling out to his family members, he received no response. The bedroom door was reportedly locked from inside.
Suspecting something was amiss, Chaitanya climbed onto the roof using a ladder and looked through the skylight, where he saw his wife, Sita Mani Tudu (30), and daughter, Jabamani Tudu (8), lying motionless on the floor. After entering the room, he discovered that both had been murdered with a sharp weapon. The girl’s throat had been slit, while the woman also bore fatal injuries inflicted by a sharp weapon.
He covered the bodies with cloth and immediately informed the police.
On receiving the information, Mahuldiha Police Station Inspector-in-Charge Tushar Nayak reached the spot with a police team, secured the scene and initiated an investigation. Sub-Divisional Police Officer Nabakrushna Nayak also visited the crime scene.
Police said a scientific team is expected to examine the spot, following which the bodies will be sent for postmortem examination on Sunday.
