Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Baripada on Monday convicted a retired Junior Engineer of the Lift Irrigation Department in Mayurbhanj district in a disproportionate assets (DA) case and sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) besides imposing a fine of Rs 1 lakh.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada, convicted Gangadhar Mohanta, former Junior Engineer, Lift Irrigation, Mayurbhanj (Retired), in a case registered under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 109 of the IPC for possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
According to Odisha Vigilance, Mohanta had earlier been charge-sheeted after an investigation into the disproportionate assets case.
Following his conviction, Odisha Vigilance said it will move the competent authority for the stoppage of Mohanta’s pension in accordance with the applicable rules.
