Jaleswar: A Special Court in Jaleswar has sentenced a man to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh after convicting him in a 2021 brown sugar trafficking case involving the seizure of 1.53 kg of the contraband by the Special Task Force (STF).
Special Court Judge Ajay Kumar Pradhan delivered the judgment on Tuesday found Munaf Hosen (33), a resident of Jhareswarpur under Jaleswar Municipality in Balasore district, guilty under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act. In default of payment of the fine, he will have to undergo an additional one year of imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, an STF team, acting on specific intelligence, raided an area near a garage on Lakshmannath Road under Jaleswar police station on March 8, 2021, and seized 1,530 grams of brown sugar packed in a polythene packet from Hosen’s possession.
Following a complaint lodged by STF Inspector Sarita Beuria, a case (No. 9/2021) was registered. The investigation was conducted by Inspector Sunita Pradhan.
Hosen has remained in judicial custody since his arrest. During the trial, the prosecution examined 13 witnesses.
