Bhubaneswar: Heavy continuous rainfall has thrown normal life out of gear in Sambalpur, with a tragic incident reported from behind the City Railway Station where two youths were swept away by a sudden surge of water in a nullah.
According to reports, the two youth were caught in the strong water current while near the nullah. Local residents and rescue teams immediately launched a rescue operation.One of the youths was successfully rescued and is safe. However, the second youth remains missing.
Fire services and local administration teams have launched an intensive search operation to trace him. However, rescue efforts are being hampered by the strong water flow in the drain and water channels due to the ongoing heavy rainfall.
The administration has issued safety advisories and urged people to stay away from waterlogged areas and overflowing drains.
This incident comes as several parts of western Odisha continue to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall under the influence of the prevailing depression, leading to waterlogging in many low-lying areas.
