Sambalpur: The authorities of the Hirakud Dam have announced that the first floodwater release from the Hirakud Reservoir will take place at 11:00 am on July 9, following a steady rise in the reservoir’s water level due to continuous rainfall in its upper catchment areas.
In a public advisory issued on Monday, the dam authorities cautioned residents living in the downstream areas of the Hirakud Dam that the release of floodwater is expected to increase water levels in the Mahanadi River and its tributaries.
People have been urged to remain vigilant and refrain from entering the river or using it for bathing, fishing, or any other purpose during the period of water discharge.
The authorities also stated that they would not be held responsible for any accidents or untoward incidents resulting from the public ignoring the advisory.
Residents in vulnerable downstream areas have been advised to stay alert and follow instructions issued by the local administration and disaster management authorities.
