Bhubaneswar: Hydroponic weed worth around Rs 5 crore was seized from two passengers at the Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday in a joint operation by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Customs officials.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team of DRI and Customs officials intercepted the two passengers who had arrived from Bangkok on an early morning flight.
During a detailed search of their luggage, officials recovered around 11 kg of hydroponic weed, valued at approximately Rs 5 crore in the illegal market.
Following the seizure, both passengers were detained and are being questioned by officials to ascertain the source of the contraband and their possible links with an international drug trafficking network.
The seized contraband has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway.
