Bhubaneswar: A CRPF jawan allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison following a family dispute in Kandhamal district.
The deceased has been identified as Ashok Behera, a resident of Gayatri Colony under Baliguda police station.
According to reports, Ashok locked himself inside his room and consumed poison on Monday. When he failed to respond to repeated phone calls from his colleagues and remained inside the locked room for a long time, locals grew suspicious.
Upon being informed by Ashok’s neighbours, Baliguda police immediately rushed to the spot and broke open the door the presence of a magistrate. They found Ashok in a critical condition and rushed him to the Baliguda Sub-Divisional Hospital for treatment. However, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
Based on the complaint of the family members, police registered a case in this connection and sent the body post-mortem.
Police suspect that mental stress arising from a family quarrel may have driven the jawan to take the extreme step.
