Bhubaneswar: A businessman was arrested by Nayapalli police on Wednesday for allegedly exposing himself to a woman near CRP Square in the city, following a complaint lodged by the victim.
The accused, identified as Asis Behera, was arrested after the woman alleged that he approached her during the early morning hours and indulged in obscene behaviour.
According to the complaint, the woman arrived in Bhubaneswar by bus on June 29 and got down near CRP Square after the vehicle stopped a little away from the designated bus stop. While she was walking towards CRP Square between 5.30 am and 6 am, a man riding a bike allegedly approached her.
The woman told police that the person first called her politely, saying, “Excuse me, can you please listen?” Believing that he might need some assistance as the area was near a bus stand, she went closer to him.
She alleged that the accused then asked her where she had got down from the bus before exposing himself and using abusive language. The woman said she raised an alarm and fled the spot before returning to her room.
Later, she approached Nayapalli police and lodged a complaint. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case and arrested the accused.
Police have started further investigation into the matter. Reports also stated that Behera had earlier been arrested in a similar case for allegedly harassing women during morning walks.
