Baripada: A shocking incident of attempted sexual assault on a minor girl has rocked the community in the Baisinga police station area of Mayurbhanj district, prompting swift police action and demands for stringent justice.
According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon when a young man allegedly misbehaved with and made an attempt to rape a minor girl who was alone at her residence. The accused’s plan was foiled when the victim raised an alarm, attracting the attention of nearby neighbours who rushed to the scene. Upon seeing the approaching residents, the suspect fled the location.
Upon receiving information, the Baisinga police, under the direction of Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Barini Das, launched immediate raids across several locations. The investigation led to the detention of a young man from Nua Sahi village near Purunia, which falls under the Baisinga police station limits. He is currently being interrogated by the police.
Acting on a written complaint filed by the minor girl’s brother-in-law, the authorities promptly arranged for the victim’s medical examination. A formal case has been registered under the stringent provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Police confirmed that legal proceedings are underway as the investigation into the matter continues.
The incident has sparked widespread dissatisfaction and outrage among local residents, who are demanding the strictest possible legal action against the perpetrator. Community members have also voiced renewed concerns over the safety and security of minors and women in the area.
