Bhubaneswar: Vice President CP Radhakrishnan arrived in Bhubaneswar on Thursday and was accorded a warm welcome at the Biju Patnaik International Airport.
Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan welcomed the Vice President upon his arrival. Chief Secretary Anu Garg and Bhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das were also present on the occasion.
After the ceremonial welcome, the Vice President proceeded directly from the airport to the OUAT campus in Bhubaneswar. He is attending a programme organised by the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying at OUAT Agricultural Education Sadan in Bhubaneswar. The Vice President will formally hand over authorization letters to fishermen, fish entrepreneurs, fishing vessel owners, and Fishery Cooperative Societies. He will formally launch the ‘Odisha Deep Sea Fishing Mission’ in a while.
Traditionally, fishing activities in Odisha have been limited to within 23 kilometres from the coastline. Once implemented, the new mission will enable Odisha’s fishermen to fish up to 370 kilometres into the sea. Fishermen with authorisation letters will also be permitted to venture into international waters for fishing.
The event will be attended by Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister of State Prof. S.P. Singh Baghel, Odisha Fisheries Minister Gokulanand Mallick, MP Aparajita Sarangi, MP Sukant Panigrahi, MLA Prashant Kumar Jagdeb, and other dignitaries.
