Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Authority (STA) has launched a special enforcement drive to curb the plying of vehicles without valid fitness certificates, insurance, and permits. The intensive checks are being carried out across Cuttack as part of the campaign.
According to officials, the Cuttack RTO has seized 56 vehicles so far during the drive. The seized vehicles include autos, tractors, motorcycles and goods carriers. Both commercial and private vehicles are being inspected under the campaign.
Vehicles found flouting fitness and documentation norms are being taken into custody immediately.
The Transport Department said the inspection is aimed at identifying unfit vehicles operating on roads without proper documents. Similar checks are being conducted by RTOs in Puri, Talcher, Bhubaneswar, Nuapada, Balasore and Jagatsinghpur.
Action is being taken under provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. STA officials stated that a strict approach is being adopted against habitual offenders.
Enforcement teams have been directed to seize vehicles that are repeatedly found violating transport rules.
Officials warned that repeated violations will be treated as a serious breach of road safety compliance. Data from major toll plazas also showed a high number of violations detected during the drive.
Bandalo and Manguli plaza recorded 5,281 detections. Pipili reported 4,816 violations.
Sergarh saw 3,769 cases and Gudipada and Gangapada together recorded 2,807 violations.
