Bhubaneswar: A Special Vigilance Court in Bhubaneswar on Friday sentenced Gouranga Marthi, a retired dealing assistant from the office of the District Labour Officer (DLO), Bhubaneswar, to one year of simple imprisonment and imposed a fine after convicting him in a bribery case registered by the Odisha Vigilance.
According to an official Vigilance release, Marthi had been charge-sheeted under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to process a file for the renewal of a labour licence.
Following the conviction, the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar, awarded him one year of simple imprisonment along with a fine.
The Odisha Vigilance said it will now move the competent authority for stoppage of Marthi’s pension in accordance with the rules following his conviction.
