Bhubaneswar: The Odisha School and Mass Education (S&ME) Department has directed all government and aided schools across the state not to collect admission fees from students, reiterating the state government’s decision to provide free education under the ‘Gyanodaya—Shikshya Ru Samruddhi’ scheme.

In a letter issued on Friday to the Directors of Secondary Education and Higher Secondary Education, Commissioner-cum-Secretary N. Thirumala Naik instructed that no admission fee should be collected from students in all eligible educational institutions functioning under the S&ME Department.

The directive follows the state government’s earlier decision to waive admission fees in all government and aided secondary and higher secondary schools as part of the Gyanodaya—Shikshya Ru Samruddhi scheme.

The department stated that no fee shall be collected at the time of admission from students in any eligible educational institution covered under the scheme. It also informed that detailed operational guidelines for implementation of the fee waiver programme will be issued shortly.

The latest directive forms part of the Odisha government’s broader initiative to provide free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level in all eligible educational institutions under the Gyanodaya—Shikshya Ru Samruddhi scheme, aimed at reducing the financial burden on students and ensuring greater access to education.
