Bhubaneswar: More than 5.18 lakh people were screened for tuberculosis and over 28,000 Poshan Kits were distributed to patients during Odisha’s 100-Day TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2.0, reflecting the State’s intensified efforts to accelerate TB elimination through early detection, preventive treatment and community participation.
Implemented across all 30 districts from March 24 to July 5, the campaign was carried out under the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) by the State TB Cell, Directorate of Public Health, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Odisha, with support from district administrations, healthcare institutions, development partners and community organisations.
As part of the drive, 4,470 TB Screening Shivirs (health camps) were organised across urban, rural and hard-to-reach areas. More than 3.44 lakh people participated in these camps, underscoring the growing public response to tuberculosis awareness and screening initiatives.
Officials said that 9,013 household contacts of TB patients were initiated on TB Preventive Treatment (TPT) to reduce future disease transmission. Nutritional support, considered an integral component of TB care and recovery, was also strengthened through the distribution of 28,348 Poshan Kits under the Ni-kshay Mitra Initiative.
The campaign witnessed extensive Jan Bhagidari, with elected representatives, government officials, civil society organisations, community leaders, educational institutions and volunteers actively participating in awareness and outreach activities.
Health workers, District TB Centres, medical officers, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), Community Health Officers (CHOs) and partner organisations played a key role in ensuring that screening and awareness activities reached vulnerable and high-risk populations across the State.
Special screening camps, community outreach programmes and school and college engagement activities significantly expanded access to TB services while helping reduce stigma associated with the disease.
The Department of Health and Family Welfare said the achievements of the 100-Day TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan 2.0 reflect Odisha’s strong commitment to eliminating tuberculosis through innovation, community participation and inter-sectoral convergence.
The department also expressed appreciation to healthcare workers, district administrations, development partners, Ni-kshay Mitras, educational institutions, civil society organisations, the media and citizens for their collective efforts in making the campaign a success.
With the campaign concluding on July 5, the State Government has reiterated its commitment to sustaining the momentum and intensifying efforts to achieve the national goal of eliminating tuberculosis by ensuring timely diagnosis, quality treatment, preventive care and comprehensive support for every citizen.
