Bhubaneswar: The Assistant Sub-inspector of Police (ASI) of Khalikote Police Station in Ganjam district, was apprehended by Odisha Vigilance today while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000.
According to Vigilance, Sujit PanigrahI was the Investigating Officer in a case registered against the complainant at Khalikote PS and had demanded Rs 15,000 to help him in the case. Unable to meet the demand, the complainant reported the matter to Vigilance authorities.
Following this, a Vigilance team laid a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while taking the bribe money inside the PS campus. The entire tainted amount of Rs 15,000 has been recovered from his possession and seized.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations linked to Panigrahi from a Disproportionate Assets angle.
In this connection, Brahmapur Vigilance PS registered under Section 7 of the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018 has been registered.
