The court, while pronouncing the verdict, also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the accused under Sections 376(D) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Earlier, the court had directed financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the victim under the government scheme.

According to the prosecution, on the evening of February 3, 2024, a 29-year-old woman was gang-raped near Nimkana Railway Station under Tirtol police station limits in Jagatsinghpur district.

Tirtol police arrested three accused involved in the heinous crime. The accused have been identified as Ranjan Kumar Shil (26), Biswaranjan Nayak (29) and Suresh Kumar Behera (40). The Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW&CW) investigated the case and filed a chargesheet in the court.

Based on the charge-sheet and strong evidence presented during trial, the Fast Track Special Court convicted all three accused and pronounced the sentence today.
