Rayagada: Rayagada police have arrested three members of a robbery gang that allegedly posed as police personnel to gain entry into houses and loot cash and valuables.

The gang had recently looted Rs 4.75 lakh from a house in Gunupur by impersonating police officers.

According to police, the robbery took place around noon on July 8 at Lagatiguda village under Garanda Panchayat in the Gunupur police station limits of Ramanaguda block. Six men allegedly entered the residence of Tamana Huika claiming to be police personnel.

The accused reportedly carried a small quantity of ganja with them and accused Huika of being involved in the illegal cannabis trade. Threatening him in the name of a police search, they took the keys to an almirah and decamped with Rs 4.75 lakh kept inside.

Huika lodged a complaint at Gunupur police station on July 10, following which an investigation was launched under the supervision of Inspector-in-Charge K.K.B.K. Kanhar.

During the investigation, police arrested three accused identified as Dubula Patika (35) of Badaguda village in Ramanaguda block, Tanmaya Bidika (35) of Lauguda Colony, and Sunda Sabar (41) of Suludi village.

Police seized Rs 54,000 in cash, two motorcycles and three mobile phones from their possession.

The arrested accused will be produced before a court on Wednesday. Police said efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining members of the gang involved in the robbery.

Inspector-in-Charge K.K.B.K. Kanhar said further investigation into the case is in progress and the remaining accused would be arrested soon.
