Bhubaneswar: A nurse was found hanging in her rented house in the Damana area under the jurisdiction of Chandrasekharpur police on Wednesday.
Police have detained her former boyfriend for questioning as they investigate allegations of prolonged mental harassment and blackmail that may have driven her to die by suicide. Her live-in partner is also being questioned as part of the investigation.
The deceased, identified as Sasmita, hailed from Balangir and was working as a nurse in Bhubaneswar. She was living in a rented house with her live-in partner, Mahesh Nath.
Police recovered the body from the house and sent it for post-mortem examination. Mahesh was initially detained as part of the investigation.
During the probe, investigators allegedly found evidence pointing to the involvement of Sasmita’s former boyfriend, Paramananda, who is also from Balangir. According to police, he had allegedly been blackmailing and mentally harassing Sasmita after learning that she was living with Mahesh in Bhubaneswar.
Investigators suspect the alleged harassment intensified in the days leading up to her death. Police have seized Sasmita’s mobile phone and are examining call recordings, messages, and other digital evidence to establish the sequence of events.
Both Mahesh and Paramananda are being questioned. Chandrasekharpur police have registered an unnatural death case and launched an investigation.
