Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance apprehended a Revenue Inspector red-handed while taking bribe for facilitating the issuance of a land patta in Gunupur tahasil on Wednesday.
According to Vigilance, Susanta Mallick, Revenue Inspector of Sirijhuli Circle under Gunupur Tahasil of Rayagada was caught while demanding and accepting Rs 25,000 from an applicant in his office room.
The complainant had applied online as per R&DM Department rules for a mutation case and for issuance of ROR/Land Patta of his ancestral land after depositing the requisite fees.
As per Vigilance release, the accused RI was allegedly delaying the process without any reason and later demanded Rs 25,000 to submit a favourable enquiry report and expedite the file.
Based on the complaint of harassment, a Vigilance team laid a trap and nabbed Mallick while he was taking the bribe amount. The entire tainted money of Rs 25,000 was recovered and seized from his possession.
Following the trap, simultaneous searches are underway at three locations linked to the accused RI from the disproportionate assets angle.
A case has been registered at Koraput Vigilance PS Case No. 16/2026 under Section 7 of the PC Amendment Act, 2018. Investigation is in progress.
