Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar will hold its 6th Convocation Ceremony on July 18, marking another milestone in the institute’s journey of academic excellence, research and healthcare service. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare and Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel will attend the ceremony as the chief guest and confer degrees on the graduating students, Executive Director Dr. Ashutosh Biswas announced during a press briefing on Friday.
The ceremony will also be attended by Odisha Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling and Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha MP Aparajita Sarangi, along with other dignitaries.
A total of 684 students from various academic programmes will receive degrees during the convocation. The graduating batch includes 192 MBBS students, 163 MD/MS students, 60 DM/MCh students, 17 Post-Doctoral Fellows, four PhD scholars, 134 BSc (Hons.) Nursing students, 75 BSc (Hons.) Paramedical students and 39 MSc Nursing students.
In recognition of academic excellence, the institute will award 61 gold medals to 32 meritorious students.
The press briefing was attended by Dean (Academic) Dr. Dillip Kumar Parida, Dean (Examination) Dr. Manaswini Mangaraj, Dean (Research) Dr. Baijayantimala Mishra, Medical Superintendent Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, Registrar Dr. Sudipta Ranjan Singh, Deputy Director (Administration) Lt. Col. Abhijit Sarkar and other senior faculty members.
Meanwhile, AIIMS Bhubaneswar also announced the approval for setting up a dedicated Neonatal Surgical Intensive Care Unit under its Department of Pediatric Surgery. The specialised facility will provide preoperative stabilisation, postoperative intensive care and multidisciplinary management for critically ill newborns with congenital and acquired surgical conditions, particularly those referred from outside the institute.
According to the institute, the new ICU is expected to improve access to advanced neonatal surgical care, reduce avoidable referrals and enhance survival and clinical outcomes. It will also strengthen postgraduate teaching, hands-on training for resident doctors and clinical research in neonatal surgery and critical care, further reinforcing AIIMS Bhubaneswar’s position as a leading tertiary referral centre for eastern India.
