Bhubaneswar: Odisha Governor Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati on Saturday stressed the importance of skill development and sustainable employment opportunities for hearing-impaired girls, urging efforts to connect them with the state’s expanding industrial sector to help them achieve economic independence.
The Governor made the remarks during an interaction with around 50 members of the Seva Foundation from Kendujhar, including hearing-impaired girls and persons with physical disabilities, at Abhishek Hall in Lok Bhavan.
During the interaction, representatives of the foundation informed the Governor that the hearing-impaired girls are being imparted training in tailoring and handicrafts. Appreciating the initiative, Dr. Kambhampati advised the organisation to explore employment opportunities for the trained girls in the weaving industries proposed to be established across Odisha. Such initiatives, he said, would enable them to become economically self-reliant and lead lives with dignity.
The Governor also reviewed the support being extended to the participants, enquiring about the availability of hearing aids and artificial limbs. He advised the administration to facilitate the supply of hearing aids through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in accordance with the beneficiaries’ needs.
Following the interaction, the hearing-impaired girls and persons with physical disabilities visited the garden, Atal Ban and the Deer Park within the Lok Bhavan premises. Arrangements have also been made by Lok Bhavan for their visit to Puri on Sunday.
