Koraput: Police have launched an investigation after a Class 9 girl student of a government school in Koraput district accused a computer teacher of allegedly harassing and intimidating her on the school premises.
The complaint was lodged by the student of Jayantigiri Adarsha Vidyalaya under Jayapur block at Borigumma Police Station. She alleged that the teacher misbehaved with her on July 14 by dragging and pulling her inside the school campus.
In her complaint, the student further alleged that the teacher had been harassing her for a prolonged period and claimed that she had stopped attending school while studying in Class 8 due to his alleged behaviour. She also alleged that the accused had threatened her against disclosing the incidents, warning that he would ensure she could not continue her education in any school if she spoke about it.
Following the complaint, Borigumma Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Satyabrata Lenka and Officer-in-Charge of Borigumma Police Station Ramananda Sahu visited the school and initiated an investigation.
Confirming the development, SDPO Satyabrata Lenka said a case has been registered based on the complaint and the investigation is underway. He said the matter is being treated with utmost priority given its serious nature.
Headmaster of Jayantigiri Adarsha Vidyalaya, Rahit Das Sethi, said the student’s guardians had visited the school and subsequently lodged a complaint with the police. He said the school is cooperating with the investigation and that the facts would emerge after the police complete their inquiry.
Police have not disclosed further details as the investigation is in progress. The allegations remain under investigation, and no conclusions have been reached regarding the claims made in the complaint.
