Kendujhar: A man was killed after being struck by lightning while returning home with his cattle in Kendujhar district on Saturday evening, police said.
The deceased was identified as Mohan Charan Giri of Bishnupur village under Champua police station limits.
According to local sources, Giri had taken his cattle out for grazing in the afternoon. As dark clouds gathered and rain began in the evening, he started heading back home with the animals. When he was just a short distance from his house, lightning struck, leaving him critically injured.
Family members and villagers immediately rushed him to the Champua Sub Divisional Hospital. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
On receiving information about the incident, police reached the hospital and initiated an investigation. The body has been kept for post-mortem examination.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom over Bishnupur village.
