Floodwaters Enter Bhattarika Temple Premises As Mahanadi Swells

Kataka: The historic Bhattarika Temple in Kataka district has come under threat from rising floodwaters after the swollen Mahanadi River inundated parts of the temple premises, prompting authorities to step up safety measures.

The river has been swelling following incessant rainfall triggered by a low-pressure system and the subsequent depression over the region. As the water level continued to rise, floodwaters entered the temple complex, raising concerns over the safety of the centuries-old shrine.

The Endowments Department has installed warning banners around the affected area to prevent visitors from venturing into dangerous zones. Temple authorities said the situation is being closely monitored as the river continues to flow at a high level.

The temple priest expressed concern over the rapidly increasing water level, saying the situation has become increasingly alarming with the floodwaters advancing towards the shrine.

Despite repeated warnings, large numbers of people have gathered near the river to witness the flooding, prompting the administration to strengthen security arrangements. Officials have deployed personnel to prevent visitors from entering vulnerable areas and to avoid any untoward incidents.

Authorities have appealed to the public to stay away from the flooded stretch and strictly follow safety advisories until the situation improves.

Residents in the surrounding areas remain anxious as the water level has shown little sign of receding. Emergency response teams have been kept on alert to deal with any eventuality while the temple administration continues to monitor developments amid ongoing monsoon rains.
