Dhenkanal: A Panchayat Executive Officer (PEO) was allegedly assaulted inside the Kamakhyanagar block office premises in Dhenkanal district, triggering police action after complaints were lodged by both sides over alleged irregularities in the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) survey.
According to the complaint filed at Kamakhyanagar police station, Prayojita Biswal, the PEO of Kadua Panchayat, was attacked by a group of agitated people within the block office premises. The assailants reportedly accused her of irregularities in the PMAY beneficiary survey conducted in Baunshapal Panchayat.
Officials said the incident was captured on the CCTV cameras installed at the block office. The footage reportedly covers the sequence of events between 12:10 pm and 12:16 pm.
Kamakhyanagar Block Development Officer (BDO) Prabhu Kalyan Das said the incident would be thoroughly investigated and appropriate legal action would be initiated based on the findings of the inquiry.
Meanwhile, some residents of Baunshapal Panchayat have also lodged a complaint against Prayojita Biswal, accusing her of irregularities in the PMAY survey and alleging misbehaviour during the exercise.
Following complaints from both parties, police have launched an investigation into the incident. As part of the probe, two persons have been detained and are being questioned, while further investigation is underway.
