Nabarangpur: Two men died after being bitten by venomous snakes in separate incidents in Nabarangpur district, officials said on Tuesday.
The victims were identified as Sapura Santa (38) of Jabaguda village under Badatemera Panchayat in Jharigaon block and Chaitanya Gouda (35) of Mangaliguda village under Bhalukanadi Panchayat.
According to local sources, Sapura Santa was sleeping on a rope cot inside his house after dinner when a venomous snake bit him late at night. After noticing the bite, he alerted his family members, who rushed him to the Jharigaon Community Health Centre. As his condition deteriorated, he was referred to the Umarkot Community Health Centre, where he succumbed during treatment.
In another incident, Chaitanya Gouda was asleep at his residence after dinner. Late at night, he stepped into the backyard to urinate when a venomous snake bit him. His family immediately shifted him to the Jharigaon Community Health Centre before he was referred to the Umarkot Community Health Centre for advanced treatment. He, too, died while undergoing treatment.
The twin deaths have cast a pall of gloom over the affected villages, with residents expressing concern over the recurring incidents of snakebite during the monsoon season. Local authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incidents.
