Khordha: Tension prevailed at a private college hostel in Gangapada under the Infovalley police station limits in Khordha district after a violent clash broke out between two groups of students late on Tuesday night. The altercation reportedly took place between first-year and second-year students and escalated into a violent confrontation.
According to preliminary information, several first-year students sustained injuries after they were allegedly attacked with knives during the clash. The exact number of injured students and the severity of their injuries were not immediately known.
The violence triggered panic inside the hostel, with students allegedly creating a ruckus and vandalising hostel property during the incident.
Sources said similar incidents of unrest have reportedly occurred at the hostel on multiple occasions in the past, raising concerns over campus security and hostel management.
On receiving information, personnel from Infovalley police station rushed to the hostel, brought the situation under control and launched an investigation into the incident. Police are examining the circumstances that led to the clash and are identifying those involved.
