Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said the life and safety of every citizen is the top priority of his government as Odisha continues to reel under heavy rainfall and flood situation in several districts.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister said he along with his government is keeping a direct watch on the flood situation minute by minute. He said he has discussed the prevailing conditions and relief measures with the Chief Secretary and the Special Relief Commissioner. The Chief Minister said he has directed the entire administration to ensure the safety of people in the affected areas.
Urging people not to panic, he added, “My appeal to you all — do not get perturbed or scared. We are standing with you at every step. Follow administration advisories and stay safe.”
To strengthen flood management in the worst-hit districts, the state government has deployed three senior IAS officers with special responsibility. They will personally oversee flood management, evacuation and relief operations in Balasore, Bhadrak and Jajpur districts.
The Chief Minister has also directed the Special Relief Commissioner’s office and the State Emergency Operations Centre to remain open 24×7 to maintain close surveillance on water levels and the overall situation.
Besides, the rescue and evacuation teams have been put on high alert. NDRF, ODRAF, Fire Services and Police forces are fully prepared to shift people from low-lying areas to safer places.
The government has ensured that all flood shelters are equipped with essential facilities. These include safe drinking water, cooked food, emergency health services, anti-venom injections and adequate cattle fodder for livestock.
To protect the property of people who have moved to shelters, police have been asked to intensify night patrolling in affected villages.
The Chief Minister further directed officials to provide immediate compensation to those whose houses and farmland have been damaged due to floods.
It is pertinent to mention that several parts of northern and western Odisha are facing flood-like conditions after incessant rain. Rivers including Baitarani and Salandi have crossed the danger mark, prompting the administration to step up relief and rescue operations.
