Guwahati: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Thursday conducted an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas in Sivasagar, Charaideo, and Jorhat districts to assess the extent of damage caused by the current wave of floods and review the ongoing relief and rescue operations.

During his visit, the Governor inspected relief camps in Sivasagar district, including the Laxmi Nagar Relief Camp and the Sivasagar High School Relief Camp, where he interacted with displaced families and reviewed arrangements for their welfare.

According to an official statement, Acharya distributed relief materials among the camp inmates and enquired about the availability of food, safe drinking water, healthcare facilities, sanitation, and other essential services being provided to those affected by the floods.

Interacting with the flood-hit families, the Governor assured them that both the Centre and the Assam government were committed to extending all possible assistance to help them overcome the crisis. He said every effort was being made to ensure timely relief and restore normalcy in the affected areas at the earliest.

Acharya also conveyed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah were closely monitoring the flood situation in Assam and extending all necessary support to the state for relief and rehabilitation efforts.

The Governor directed the district administration to give special attention to the needs of children, women, lactating mothers, senior citizens, and students staying in the relief camps, while ensuring that no affected family is deprived of essential assistance. He stressed that relief operations should continue with compassion and efficiency until normalcy is fully restored.

Appreciating the efforts of the district administration, disaster response agencies, security forces, health personnel, volunteers, and local communities, Acharya commended their dedication in carrying out rescue and relief operations despite challenging conditions. He also called for close coordination among all stakeholders to ensure that relief and rehabilitation measures reach every affected person promptly and effectively.

Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Keshab Mahanta, Sivasagar’s Guardian Minister Bimal Bora, senior state government officials, and district administration officers accompanied the Governor during the visit.
