Flood Threat: Devotees Restricted From Visiting Dhabaleswar Shrine In Kataka

Kataka: The Kataka district administration has temporarily prohibited devotees from entering the Dhabaleswar Temple following a significant rise in the water level of the Mahanadi River due to the ongoing flood situation.

The order, issued on Thursday by the Sub-Collector of Athagada, imposes a 48-hour restriction on the entry of devotees and visitors to the famous Shaivite shrine situated on an islet in the Mahanadi. The prohibition came into effect from 4 pm on July 30 as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

According to the official directive, the increasing river level and strong flow of floodwater have made access to the temple unsafe, prompting the administration to temporarily suspend public visits.

The Athagada Tahasildar and the Inspector-in-Charge of Gurudijhatia Police Station have been instructed to enforce the order strictly and prevent any unauthorized entry into the temple premises during the restriction period.

Dhabaleswar Temple is one of Odisha’s most revered Shiva shrines, attracting hundreds of devotees from different parts of the state every day.

The temporary closure is expected to remain in force until the water level recedes and authorities assess that conditions are safe for pilgrims to return.
